The following are stills taken from the footage I captured
at the Settlement in late June-02. I would like to
express my thanks to everyone at the settlement for working
with us, and, in particular, to the three actors who were
so willing to do a number of takes from a recent performance
so that we could gain experience working with real actors:
- Douglas Harding
- Philip Bell
- Diana Evans
My thoughts thus far are that we probably had the lights a little
too bright. Digital cameras have a tendancy to 'white out' when the
light reaches a certain threshhold. Through the digital viewer,
the image seemed okay, but in actuality it was a little brighter
than I had at first thought. The lesson here would be to buy
a plug-in monitor to see the real quality of the capture.
Unfortunately, this is just too expensive, and is something I
can work around in the future. I just must remember to shoot
in light that is a few shades darker than how I envisage
the exposure.
The first image is actually fine, and is
testemant to the quality that can be achieved with great
lighting on digital - note how all the telltale signs
(including the typical 'flat' image look) associated with
digital have been eliminated. The second
image suffers the lighting problem on the actors face and hand.
The image reveals the same problem, this time on Diana who is
sitting at the back of the room.
