REPLY FROM AZDEN CORP IN RESPONSE TO TESTS:
I've listened to your test recordings and find that, under the set of
circumstances that you have chosen, it would appear to be working
properly.
In all cases, the Azden mic has reduced (more with the long barrel,
less with the short) the echo in the room - which is one of the things
I would expect from a more directional mic. The reduced low frequency
when using the low frequency filter is also as I would expect.
It's very hard to give you a critical report as the recordings are
only at 128k (most high quality MP3 work is done at 160k or better)
and some of the high frequency artifacts can, I'm sure, be attributed
to the compression method.
It sounds as though you've chosen a pre-recorded speech to test. I can
tell you that a live presentation in a larger room - or outside - will
most likely sound different.
Keep in mind what the purpose of a shotgun mic is. That is to narrow
in on a single subject in a sound-crowded environment. By design a
shotgun mic will have less presence/echo.
Overall, I would say that our mic performed as well as could be
expected under the circumstance you have presented. I was not
surprised by the differences.
